A Scribe’s responsibilities include collaborating with Optometrists and performing clerical tasks like printing out lab reports or charting Optometrist’s notes, operating electronic health records, and anticipating the needs of the Optometrist to ensure efficiency in a clinical setting.
Ultimately, the Scribe is responsible for recording Optometrists’ conversations with their patients and assisting with completing paperwork after each encounter. Documentation to include summaries of what was discussed during the consultation or treatment session, as well as referral letters sent on behalf of the patient’s insurer.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Taking notes during patient encounters and documenting them in the electronic health records system.
- Learning about the optometric process and using a team approach in patient supervision and documentation.
- Working with a supervising Optometrist to complete and submit medical records.
- Communicating with patients.
- Completing all administrative tasks efficiently and helping the Optometrist review tests.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Proven work experience as a Scribe or similar role.
- Ability to expertly document patient care and transcribe patient encounters.
- Assure the accuracy of all documentation and records.
- Advanced computer skills to transcribe and record information across our systems.
- Good bedside manner and interpersonal skills to communicate with patients effectively.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience in delivering high-quality, client-centered care.
- Able to document and navigate EHR independently.
- Ability to maintain strict client confidentiality.
- Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary team.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general and professional documents.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work productively and make independent decisions.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required.
- Medical Terminology course experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and stand for sustained period of time.
- Walk, push, pull, lift, carry objects from a lower to higher position or horizontally from position to position or otherwise move objects.
- Express or exchange ideas orally and potentially loudly, accurately, or quickly.
- Exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually low. While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
