Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning, the Program Coordinator for Mathematics in grades 6-12 will be responsible for the four major areas of instructional leadership: curriculum, instruction, and assessment; supervision and evaluation of teachers; staff development; and administration. - Working under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and the Executive Director of Secondary Instructional Operations, the program coordinator is responsible for advising and assisting in the design, development, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of the programs in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Business to provide a continuous and articulated program in grades 6-12.
- Analyze current district curriculum and recommend instructional materials and educational technologies for programs at specific grade levels.
- Facilitate meetings and professional development with math, computer science, and business staff in order to support faculty and student needs in grades 6-12.
- Support implementation and professional development required for curriculum resource adoption and coordinate purchasing needs.
- Work with the Assistant Superintendent and principals to establish goals and objectives for each school year in the areas of math, computer science, and business instruction.
- Observe classrooms for the purpose of analyzing and evaluating the program.
- Provide training and technical assistance to district leaders and school staff in the areas of interpretation of assessments results, data analysis, and performance improvement.
- Work with principals and teachers to develop and update assessment and evaluation tools to measure district achievement in math.
- Coordinate student opportunities for intervention and enrichment in mathematics in and out of the school day and year (i.e. hiring staff, managing student enrollment, and supporting curricular decisions for intervention and enrichment).
- Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent, assumes responsibility for general supervision of assigned areas and is accountable for results in terms of achievement, differentiated teaching methods, response to intervention, staff utilization, and cost effectiveness.
- Supervise pre-professional and professional status math, computer science, and business teachers.
- Evaluate teacher performance.
- Evaluate and recommend professional development needs; coordinate with Assistant Superintendent to provide professional development opportunities.
- Provide consultant teacher services regarding instructional strategies for classroom teachers.
- Participate in the Andover New Teacher Induction and Mentor Program?
- Provide and facilitate staff development opportunities for teachers both during and after school hours by teaching demonstration lessons, conducting workshops, and other activities as required.
- Keep abreast of current trends of curriculum, instruction, methods, materials and supervision through memberships in and attendance at various professional organizations and institutes. Responsible for reading and disseminating pertinent information to faculty members relative to math, computer science, and business.
- Serve as a member of school and level-based instructional leadership teams, as needed.
- Assist in determining qualifications for teacher positions specific to math, computer science, and business, screening applicants for such positions, and recommending candidates to building principals for interviews. Participate in interviewing, selecting, and assigning new teachers.
- Make recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent and principals regarding personnel within the program area.
- Prepare and justify budget recommendations for math, computer science, and business in grades 6-12, for the Assistant Superintendent.???
- Report to the community at large concerning programs by means of presentations to parent and civic groups, newspaper releases, and school committee reports as required.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Mathematics preferred
- Massachusetts Certification as Supervisor/Director
- Minimum of three years experience in supervision or administration preferred
- Minimum of five years teaching experience
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of relevant educational technologies and the ability to integrate technology in the program area
- Capacity to work in a collegial setting and to set high academic and instructional expectations.
- Demonstrations of successful teaching experience
- Experience in interdisciplinary curriculum, instructional design, implementation, and program evaluation
- Experience in curriculum development
