Position Overview:

The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Recreation Program Instructor III - Day Camp.

The Recreation Program Instructor III - Day Camp is responsible for supervising, providing instruction, planning, implementing, and participating in age-appropriate activities for the Recreation Department’s Afterschool Program, School’s Out Camp and/or Summer Camp. This position is a school-aged director qualified position and can be summer camp only or part-time year-round.

Essential Functions:

1. Supervise, interact, and provide care in a calm, safe, playful, and engaging environment for children
2. Develop and implement daily lesson plans and activities for the after-school program and provide prepared materials
3. Oversee and provide leadership to all afterschool staff including training
4. Maintain and manage daily sign-in and sign-out procedures of children.
5. Uphold and supervise that all of Town of Avon and State of Colorado School-Aged Program standards are being observed.
6. Monitor condition of all supplies, report damage to Recreation Programs Coordinator and maintain accurate inventory and re-order when necessary
7. Transport children in a 15-person passenger van (Per State Childcare Licensure requirements, employee must be 20 years old to drive a van)
8. Submit incident reports and manage operational adjustments with the assistance of the Recreation Programs Coordinator.

9. Comply with all Town of Avon safety and health policies and procedures, including the use of protective equipment and clothing, to ensure all possible safety measures are observed, enforce the rules of the childcare area and the Recreation Center in order to promote a safe work environment.

• Knowledge and interest of children and concern for their proper care and well-being

• Ability to follow directions and effectively communicate with children, Recreation Center staff, school officials and parents

Special Requirements: Recreation Program Instructor III requires a minimum age of 20 years old and must have one of the verifiable education and training with school-aged children:
1. Full completion of a Bachelor of Arts or Science and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience in such majors as, recreation, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood, or the human service field
2. Partial completion of Bachelor of Arts or Science and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience in such majors as, recreation, education with a specialty in art, elementary or early childhood, or the human service field, AND verifiable experience of at least six months full-time or equivalent part-time (910 contact hours), paid or volunteer experience as the adult leader with four (4) or more children since attaining the age of 18. This must be working with school-aged children (5-11 years old).
3. 3 years’ experience (5460 contact hours) supervising 4 or more children at a time working with school-aged children (5-12 years old).

Candidates that are close to obtaining these hours will be considered. Possession of a current CPR/AED/First Aid certification is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. A valid State of Colorado Driver’s License is required.
