Seasonal Streets Maintenance Worker
HOURS. Monday through Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday 5:00 a.m. to 9:00am and additional hours as necessary to meet the needs of the Town of Berthoud.
Additional Hours: weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary to meet the needs of the Town of Berthoud
Pay: $14.81-$17.14
SUMMARY: The Seasonal Streets Maintenance worker must be a hardworking, self-motivated, dependable individual able to work without supervision, and who enjoys working with the public. This position is under the supervision of the Streets Supervisor and is responsible for a variety of maintenance duties necessary for the operation and maintenance of the Streets Department. Background in any of the following is preferred but not required: operating commercial grade riding mowers, push mowers, weed trimmers, and backpack blowers. Ability to perform heavy lifting and manual labor. Ability to work safely and efficiently alone or with others. Valid driver’s license required.

Essential Functions / Duties
- Operates Town vehicles and all equipment such as, but not limited to dump trucks and mowers.
- Performs all phases of street maintenance such as, but not limited to street patching, storm drain cleaning, roadside and alley clean-up, tree trimming, mowing weeds, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs, barricades, pavement marking, etc.
- Performs work at the Town Cemetery, including grave excavations and maintenance activities, as well as mowing, trimming around headstones, tree trimming, irrigation, cleanup, and weed spraying
- Installs and removes barricades and cones during street maintenance.
- Assists all Public Works Departments.
- Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment, tune-ups, oil change, etc.
- Employ safety practices and procedures.
- Maintain an effective and courteous working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Performs the above duties and other duties as assigned by the Streets Department Supervisor or the Public works operations manager.
- Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record is required.
Language Skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals and procedure manuals, as well as write reports.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations to the public, employees, or Board of Trustees as well as respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and/or complaints.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
- Communication skills are enough to communicate effectively with co-workers, government agencies, the private sector, and the public.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strength, mobility, and stamina are enough to complete the required work and work for extended periods of time.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools.
