Swim Instructor

Summary

Berthoud’s Swim Instructors are responsible for teaching Berthoud’s Learn to Swim Program, safety of the participants, and all safety measures in and around the pool area. Availability to work daytime shifts, evenings and/or weekends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following:

• Teach swim lessons in a progressive manner within the Berthoud Learn to Swim program.
• Create and follow swim lesson plans with curriculum to foster skill development.
• Evaluate and monitor students’ progression throughout the learn to swim curriculum.
• Maintain a safe learning environment.
• Promote a positive learning atmosphere.
• Demonstrate professionalism in all forms of communication.
• Provide ongoing corrective feedback to participants and relay progress to parents/guardians.
• Enforce all facility rules and regulations.
• Attend all required in-service trainings, workshops, and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience may be considered for the position. A typical way to demonstrate the education and experience necessary for the position is:

• Must be 15 years of age.
• Experience working with youth and/or teaching swimming lessons. Preferred.
• Ability to demonstrate freestyle and backstroke with proper technique.
• Ability to attend the Berthoud Learn to Swim training within 3 months of hire.
• Ability to demonstrate water safety skills and survival swimming.
  
  

Certificates And Licenses

• Must hold a valid American Red Cross CPR/First Aid and AED certification or ability to obtain within 3 months.

Work will be performed indoors at the Berthoud Recreation Center. Work involves the possibility of fluctuating water and air temperatures with moderate to loud noises.
