Essential Functions

• Performs a variety of complex, entry level duties related to the daily maintenance, repair, construction and renovation of Town buildings and facilities
• Interprets construction drawings
• Estimates material quantities for projects
• Procuring material and supplies
• Operating equipment used in general carpentry, plumbing, painting, woodworking, framing, fabrication, sheet rocking, masonry, roofing, insulation, footings, foundations, installation of windows and doors and repair and replacement of locks
• Assists with snow removal

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of maintenance, repair and manual tasks of the area assigned\
• General knowledge of the use of common hand and specialized power tools required in the work
• General knowledge of the safe use and operation and preventive maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment required in the work
• Skill in the use of equipment to which assigned
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods
• Ability to follow instructions
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public

• May require possession of or ability to obtain specific certifications depending on area of assignment.
• Valid commercial driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia within 90 days of hire, as well as a satisfactory driving record

Physical Requirements

This work requires:

• The frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, regular exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force
• Work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and tasting or smelling
• Work has standard vision requirements
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
• Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
• Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities
• Work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to the risk of electrical shock and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic)
