General Definition of Work
The Public Works Technician for the Pump Station division performs skilled tasks related to the maintenance of wastewater and fresh water pump stations, and water storage tanks including providing feedback for pump station renewal and preventive maintenance schedules, troubleshooting highly specialized equipment related to pumping stations, and making timely decisions with respect to equipment repairs and/or replacements. This position will be required to be in the on-call rotation to provide evening, weekend, and holiday coverage. Occasional overtime is required.
Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm

- Performs a variety of advanced and skilled duties related to the maintenance and repair of wastewater and fresh water pumping stations, and water storage tanks
- Performs advanced installation, repair, and maintenance of pumps, motors, mechanical support equipment and control devices used in waste water and fresh water pumping stations
- Maintains daily inspection logs for all town pumping stations
- Maintains and repairs STEP/STEG sewer systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Through knowledge of pump operations and maintenance
- Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic controls as related to pump stations
- Must possess a moderate knowledge of personal computers and mobile devices, and be willing to train in the usage of internal software applications as required
- The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, associates, contractors and the general public
- Two to five years’ work experience in Public Works or related area is required for this position
- High school diploma or GED certification
- Valid Virginia driver's license with good driving record
- A Virginia Class B Commercial Driver's license is required
