What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Therapeutic Recreation Aide - Summer Seasonal position at Town of Breckenridge?
Individuals in this position are responsible for assisting youth recreation program participants, ranging in ages from five (5) to twelve (12) years, with physical, cognitive, social or emotional disabilities. Staff will be responsible for the care of like-age participants who are a part of Rec Department programs. Activities on an average day may include swimming, rock climbing, field trips, organized games, sports and art and crafts. The incumbent will work alongside program staff who are leading the programmed activities and will maintain the safety and focus of children in his/her care. The incumbent will be responsible for communicating daily with parents regarding their child's behavior and needs. They must be familiar with the use of adaptive equipment, be able to lift/assist participants safely and be willing to participate in the daily recreational activities. This staff member may also be asked to adapt activities for the children in their care.
Key responsibilities include imparting customer service in a responsible, service-oriented manner that supports a culture of safety, where an emphasis on risk management is communicated and contributes positively to the customer experience.

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have received a High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts on an as needed basis.
- Shifts are Summer Camp dates, Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- One (1) or more years customer service experience.
- One (1) or more years experience in working with youth ages five (5) to twelve (12) years of age.
- One (1) or more years experience in working with youth who have physical, cognitive, social and emotional diagnoses.
- One (1) or more years experience working with youth who have disabilities in a recreation, camp or educational setting.
- To qualify for this position, the candidate or employee must pass a criminal background check.
- Basic CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications are required within 60 days of hire.
- Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) required within 60 days of hire.
- A valid Colorado driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record is required.
- College degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related program preferred.
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification desired.
SENSITIVITY STATUS
Because the Town's Recreation Department positions may involve direct contact with children, the Town requires that the incumbent in this position must have a clear criminal history that bears on their fitness to have responsibility for the safety and well-being of children.
WORK SCHEDULE
Primary shifts for this position generally are Monday - Friday during the school year from 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and on No School Days and Summer Camp dates, shifts are Monday - Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., as needed. Shifts vary due to participants needs & schedule. Individuals in this position must be flexible in terms of availability; and may on occasion be required to work other shifts as needed, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
