Assistant Town Clerk

The Brooklyn Town Clerk’s office is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Town Clerk. This is a full-time (thirty-five) 35 hours per week, hourly position reporting to the Town Clerk.

Responsibilities include:

Receives and records land records. Receives, records and indexes vital records (birth, marriage and death records). Receives and calculates recording fees and conveyance taxes for deed transfers, land maps and trade name certificates. Issues licenses for marriages, dogs, hunting and fishing. Assists the Registrars of Voters in administering elections. Issues absentee ballots. Provides technical assistance to title searchers, attorneys and members of the public. Notarizes documents for the town and the general public. Provides information concerning services offered by the office and Town Government. Receives and processes Freedom of Information Requests. Receives and posts all meeting agendas and minutes. Assumes responsibility of the office in the absence of the Town Clerk. This work requires attention to detail, the ability to multitask and involves considerable and constant interaction with the public.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Must be highly computer literate with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Microsoft Access knowledge preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Must be a Connecticut Certified Town Clerk or have the ability to obtain certification within three (3) years of employment. Must be a Notary Public or have the ability to obtain and maintain the certification.
