We are seeking dedicated coaches with the ability to lead, motivate, and instruct youth aged 5-18 in hitting, fielding, and pitching skills. This role will work out of several of our locations including Thomas Brooks Park, Middle Creek Park, and our renowned USA Baseball National Training Complex.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends, as needed.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Typical Tasks
- Lead and assist in softball camps, clinics, and one-on-one lessons for youth ages 5-18, focusing on hitting, fielding, and pitching.
- Design, implement, and evaluate new softball programs.
- Prepare lesson plans and teaching manuals for all scheduled activities.
- Supervise and lead other instructors during larger clinics and camps.
- Motivate support staff to provide exceptional service to patrons.
- Interact with parents, students, co-workers, and the public responsibly, ensuring participant safety and an enjoyable recreational experience.
- Develop and plan hitting/fielding and pitching components of camps and clinics.
- Perform other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of softball skills
- General knowledge of common computer software
- Ability to effectively and tactfully communicate with co-workers, the public, participants, and parents both verbally and in writing
- Ability to multitask and appropriately manage time
- Ability to lead with a commitment to access, diversity, equity and inclusion
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate successful training sessions for softball skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.
Requires a CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months with provided training)
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
- Some experience playing softball at a collegiate or equivalent level
- Some experience running softball camps or coaching at the high school or equivalent level
Work in this class requires the employee to be able to move about freely and walk unassisted in order to move about the facility. An employee must be able to lift or move moderately heavy items (up to 75 lbs. for an item on wheels, and regularly up to 25 lbs.) such as equipment bags, pitching machines, and other related equipment. An employee must be able to hear and talk in order to communicate with the public and with groups under instruction. Visual acuity is needed to effectively train and supervise the lessons/camps/clinics. The employee must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, such as rain or heat, for extended periods of time.
Conditions of Employment
Requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
