Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Examines residential and commercial plans for building code and ordinance compliance; makes any corrections needed to assure such compliance.
- Verifies square foot evaluations and submittal accuracy.
- Approves or disapproves applications for building and related permits.
- Advises and educates property owners, architects, builders and engineers on matters regarding building code compliance and zoning ordinances.
- Calculates fee valuation for building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical permits.
- Communicates with relevant Town departments prior to issuance of permits for approval.
- Assists with pre-application meetings.
- Prepares reports on code review; coordinates reviews with other departments.
- Researches codes for adoption and amendments.
- May perform inspections when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Plans Examiner I:
Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Experience: One (1) year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Licenses and/or Certifications:

- Colorado Driver License
Preferred Qualifications:
-
- ICC Plans Examiner Certification or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire
Plans Examiner II:
Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Experience: Three (3) years’ related experience in a building department field and plans examiner duties; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licenses and/or Certifications:

- Colorado Driver License
Preferred Qualifications:
-
- ICC Plans Examiner Certifications in multiple trades
- Commercial and Residential plan review experience
Plans Examiner III
Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Experience: Five (5) years of plan review experience in a Building Inspection Department: or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licenses and/or Certifications:

- Valid Colorado Drivers License
- Current ICC (B3) Building Plans Examiner certification
- Current ICC (R3) Residential Plans Examiner certification
- Current Plumbing Plans Examiner (P3)
- Current Mechanical Plans Examiner (M3)
- Electrical Plans Examiner (E3) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of commercial and residential building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and structural codes, ordinances and regulations.
- Skill in reading blue prints, architectural drawings, and engineering drawings.
- Math skills to calculating permit fees and square footage measurements.
- Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information, such as building, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical codes, the Town ordinance, and architectural drawings.
- Ability to utilize a variety of tools and equipment, such as architect and engineering scales and a planimeter.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
Physical Demands
- Moderate physical work to include lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects and materials up to 25 pounds
- Frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, crawling, and/or twisting
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools and electrical equipment as well as for driving equipment and vehicles
- Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
Work Environment:
- Works outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions
- Regular exposure to dust, noise, and chemicals
Equipment Used:
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
Candidate must satisfactorily complete a driving record check and criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
