The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for a Intern Budget and Performance for the Administration Department. The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts.

The purpose of the Budget and Performance Internship is to gain hands-on experience in municipal budgeting, financial analysis, and data-driven decision making.
- Work with the Budget Manager to improve the budget development process
- Develop and complete the Annual Budget Book
- Organize and utilize data for performance management implementation
- Update, reformat, and complete the Budget Calendar for FY25-26
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of municipal budgeting and financial planning
- Learn how to structure and present budget documents for transparency and public engagement
- Improve proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial modeling, and data visualization tools
- Strengthen written and verbal communication skills in a professional government setting
Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:
- Basic understanding of budgeting, finance, or public administration concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, charts, and tables.
- Interest in local government operations, public service, or performance measurement.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and interpret data to support decision-making.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently on assigned tasks.
- Willingness to learn and take the initiative in a professional environment.
Education & Experience
- Current an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Political Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework by the start of the internship (rising juniors and seniors preferred).
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Should be able to work 30–40 hours per week during the summer internship period.
- Should be available to work in person in the Town of Clayton.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and commitment to public service.

When a salary range is posted, the actual salary will be based on relevant competencies, knowledge, skills & abilities, internal equity and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
