The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for an Intern for the Engineering Department. The Town of Clayton employs more than 340 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts.

The purpose of this position is to recruit college students majoring in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related disciplines.- Assist Director/Assistant Director with comprehensive planning projects such as public outreach, program development and creation, process updates, and mapping
- Assist Project Managers with project management tasks such as reviewing payment applications, coordination of field activities, performing field inspections, attending meetings, and taking notes
- Assist Stormwater Engineer and Environmental Compliance Specialist with items associated with the Town’s MS4permit such as performing post-construction SCM Inspection, performing SCM and Stormwater facility inventory, preparing and mailing annual inspection letters, creating tracking spreadsheets, coordinating field inspections, and performing plan review
- Assist Engineering Technicians with field inspections of development projects such as sidewalk, driveway, public water and sewer main inspection and associated apparatuses
- Perform routine erosion control inspections
- Perform administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, and organization of historic information to ensure compliance with record retention policies
- Perform inventories and condition of Town maintained assets such as street blade signs, MUTCD signage, roadways, sidewalks, curb and gutter, pavement markings, etc.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Minimum high school diploma or GED and currently pursuing an Associate Degree, a Bachelor’s Degree, or a Master’s Degrees in Civil Engineer, or related field is preferred
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a College student
- Must possess a basic knowledge of Civil Engineering principles, skill in computer and applicable software

Depending on the position, the Town may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

When a salary range is posted, the actual salary will be based on relevant competencies, knowledge, skills & abilities, internal equity and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
