What's The Job?
The Assistant Building Official provides technical and administrative support to the Building Official, supervises and evaluates staff, and handles employee concerns. This includes overseeing work, conducting performance appraisals, and making hiring/firing recommendations. They ensure compliance with Town codes, regulations, and standards by overseeing the planning, inspection, and review of residential, industrial, and commercial buildings. The role also involves guiding and resolving complex inspection and enforcement issues. Additionally, the Assistant Building Official helps with the research, revision, and implementation of building codes and ordinances, as well as preparing policies for adoption by the Town.
Minimum Requirements
Here is what you must have to be considered for the position of Assistant Building Official:
- Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in Architecture, Engineering or a closely related field
- Six (6) years’ experience in building codes enforcement at a professional level; at least one (1) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must obtain certification as a Building Official and a Combination Inspector through a recognized certification program within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
