What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time - Animal Control position at TOWN OF CORNELIUS?
Job Summary
Under general supervision, assists with enforcement of animal control laws, leash laws and regulations relating to animal control in the Town; assists with operations of the animal control shelter; performs related work as required.
Essential Duties
(Any one position may not include all of the tasks listed, nor do the examples necessarily include all of the tasks performed.)
- Patrols the Town of Cornelius and enforces State and Town animal ordinances,
- Picks up stray animals as required, and transports animals to the Shelter.
- Responds to calls for service and assists with maintaining animal control reports.
- Investigates reports of animal bites and enforces laws requiring quarantine for observation.
- Transports sick animals to the veterinarian and performs welfare checks to confirm animals are treated in a humane manner.
- Issues citations for violations of animal control ordinances including leash laws, noise ordinances, cruelty, failure to provide rabies vaccination, etc.
- Operates animal control vehicle(s) and animal handling equipment.
- Provides information to the public regarding ordinances and regulations.
- Assists with keeping the Animal Shelter open to the public for adoptions and works closely with volunteers at the Animal Shelter.
- Maintains animal control standby duties. Performs other duties as required.

- Proficient in specific tasks and duties as required by the assigned department.
- Good organization skills and Ability to multitask.
- Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Some experience in the care and handling of animals; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Hours
Approximately 20 hours per week.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
Work with animals involves some degree of risk to personal safety. Work involves inside and outside work with exposure to bad weather at times.
