What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Building Official position at Town of Davie?
Under limited supervision of the Building Official, this position performs highly responsible administrative, supervisory and technical work dealing with customer services. The employee is also responsible for assisting the Building Official in the supervision and managing of personnel within the Building Division. Acts as the Building Official in the absence of the Building Official. Reports to the Building Official.

REQUIRED:
- Graduation from an accredited High School or GED equivalent;
- A Florida Registered Architect or Florida licensed Professional Engineer having practiced for at least seven (7) years, a minimum of five (5) years shall have been within the jurisdiction of the HVHZ OR
- Ten (10) years combined experience as a Master Electrician, Electrical Contractor, General Contractor, Master Mechanical, Mechanical Contractor, Class A Air Conditioning Contractor, Master Plumber, Plumbing Contractor, Chief Inspector, Standard Plans Examiner or Standard Inspector appointed by an AHJ or school board within the State of Florida with a minimum of five (5) years shall have been within the jurisdiction of the HVHZ.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Chief Inspector, Standard Plans Examiner or Standard Inspector by an AHJ or school board within the State of Florida.
- Two (2) years of Supervisory Experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Possess or be able to obtain certification as an Assistant Building Official by BORA within ninety (90) days of hire.
- Each of the applicants shall possess a current Certificate of Competency or a Professional Engineer license or Architect registration issued by at least one (I) of the following entities:
- Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board as a General Contractor, Mechanical Contractor or Plumbing Contractor
- Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board as an Electrical Contractor
- Broward County Central Examining Board of Building Construction Trades (As Class "A" Unlimited GC)
- Broward County Central Examining Board of Electricians as a Master Electrician and/ or Electrical Contractor
- Broward County Central Examining Board of Mechanical Contractors and Specialty Mechanical Contractors as a Mechanical Contractor or Class A Air Conditioning Contractor
- Broward County Central Examining Board of Plumbers as a Master Plumber
- Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board (For any of the above-referenced disciplines)
- Florida Board of Architecture and Interior Design
- Florida Board of Professional Engineers
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

- Health Insurance
- 100% paid by the Town for single coverage, 50% paid by the Town for dependents.
- Schedule: 4 day work week - 10 hours per day (Monday-Thursday)
- Leave:
- Holidays – 13 days per year.
- Sick Leave – 3.69 hours accrued per pay period
- Vacation Leave – Accrue 2 weeks per year, accrual rate increases every 5 years (capped at 4 weeks after 10 years of service).
- Birthday Leave – 1 day per year after successfully passing probation
- Quality Service – 1 day per year after successfully passing probation and other conditions.
- Wellness Days – 2 days per year after successfully passing probation.
- Pension/Retirement:
- Town Sponsored Pension – mandatory 3% contributions per pay period.
- 457 Deferred Compensation Plan - Employee is entitled to make voluntary contributions through the payroll to the Town sponsored 457 deferred compensation plan only.
- The selection process will include successfully meeting the minimum requirements of each of the following: an oral assessment, background investigation and a medical examination which includes a drug screening test and physical examination.
