Are you passionate about protecting natural landscapes, enhancing outdoor recreation, and leading impactful conservation initiatives? The Town of Eagle is seeking a dynamic Open Space & Trails Manager to oversee and shape the future of our open space and trails program. This role offers the perfect blend of strategic leadership, hands-on fieldwork, and community engagement—all in one of Colorado's most breathtaking outdoor destinations.

Job Summary:

  • Plan and manage open space projects that protect and enhance Eagle's natural beauty.
  • Supervise a dedicated team, collaborate with key stakeholders, and work alongside outdoor enthusiasts.
  • From strategic planning to trail maintenance, no two days are the same.
  • Work directly with residents, environmental groups, and government agencies to make a lasting difference.
  • Spend time in the great outdoors, working in some of Colorado's most scenic landscapes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage the Town's open space and trail programs, ensuring alignment with the Open Space & Trails Master Plan.
  2. Plan for the future by developing and executing land acquisition and conservation strategies.
  3. Oversee trail development including planning, maintenance, and improvements in collaboration with developers, agencies, and stakeholders.
  4. Engage the community by managing the Open Space & Recreation Advisory Committee (OSRAC), facilitating public meetings, and coordinating special events.
  5. Secure funding through grants and budget management to enhance open space and recreation opportunities.
  6. Ensure environmental stewardship by implementing sustainable land management practices, weed and pest control programs, and habitat restoration initiatives.
  7. Supervise and inspire seasonal staff, volunteers, and contractors to uphold high standards in open space maintenance and recreational access.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Parks & Recreation Administration, Natural Resources Management, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • 4 years of experience in open space, trails management, or land conservation.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong background in open space planning, land acquisitions, and trail management.
  • Experience with grant writing, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Ability to build relationships with public agencies, local government, and community groups.
  • Strong communication and public engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in GIS mapping and data analysis preferred.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
  • Ability to hike, bike, and navigate rugged terrain as part of fieldwork duties.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background and motor vehicle records check.

Work Environment & Perks:

  • A mix of office and fieldwork—hiking trails, inspecting land, and engaging with the community.
  • Flexibility in schedule, with remote work options 1-2 days per week after training.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and professional development opportunities.
  • A supportive, innovative team committed to preserving Eagle's natural spaces.
