Pine Knoll Head Counselor
Non-Union – up to 40 hours per week – May 5, 2025 to August 15, 2025
Hourly Range: $16.50 - $18.50

General Description:
The Head Counselor is responsible for planning, leading, and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. They will also be responsible for the general safety, and development, growth and skill achievement of the participants in their respective groups. The incumbent will provide high quality outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the values of learning, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Primary Essential Functions:

- Responsible for supervising all counselors and counselors-in-training in their respective group.
- Assist all program staff in carrying out activities planned in their specific area and supervising campers.
- Responsible for the welfare of each individual in the group and do all that is possible to resolve problems that arise.
- Work with staff and campers to foster a respect for all East Longmeadow Recreation property and instill a civic duty to keep the camp clean.
- Attend all training meetings as assigned.
- Supervise and lead staff in the group to develop activities for Pine Knoll Day Camp.
- Identify and respond to camper behavior issues.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skills:
Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
Experience and Training:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Demonstrate strong problem solving abilities and techniques.
- Have excellent customer service skills.
- Be dependable and organized.
- CPR/First Aid Certified
- At least two years working with youth ages 3-12 with one year in a supervisory role preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
