Town of East Lyme Summer Camp Counselor Job Description Department: Parks and Recreation FLSA: Hourly (Seasonal position June – August) Reports to: Program Coordinator Supervises: Camp Counselors, Site Leaders, Assistant Director.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY: Supervises children in a summer camp setting. Organizes and leads age-appropriate activities. Essential Functions: Aid in the hiring process of new staff. Addresses behavioral or safety concerns involving children in groups. Stock med kit bags every Friday afternoon for Monday start or periodically throughout the week as needed. Communicates with parents, providing updates where required and answering questions about the camp. Day to day schedule plans for each group.Plan and implement special events. Completes all necessary records and reports. Assist with requests from Site Leaders or Camp Counselors. Utilizing the Summer Camp Facebook page.
Other Functions: Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES: Three or more years in a summer day camp setting. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and non-professional, co-workers, management personnel, the public and others Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple priorities. Able to think quickly, assess a situation and make sound decisions. Ability to establish positive rapport with children and parents. Strong customer service, interpersonal and communication skills. Reliable attendance.
