Salary Range: $48,000 - $52,000 depending on experience

Job Description:
The Town of Federalsburg is looking for a Town Treasurer. This is a specialized, bondable, accounting position involving the independent application of bookkeeping principles to the maintenance of fiscal records. The employee in this class will have limited supervision and will disburse money and maintain records. You will report directly to the Town Manager and will work closely with both the Town Manager as well as the Town Clerk and the Mayor & Council of Federalsburg.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining the town’s fiscal records,
- Posts balance ledger and cash journals at specified times.
- Accounts for receipts and expenditures by source and purpose number, as required by the Maryland Uniform Financial Reporting Manual.
- Exercises proper financial accountability according to State and Federal Tax Laws and Social Security Regulations.
- Collect fiscal data,
- Ensure the Town Manager is continually informed of the status of the Town’s funds,
- Assists with the preparation of the town’s budget and works with department supervisor’s and the Town Manager to ensure accurate budgeting practices.
- Ensure proper accountability of the town’s budget by checking for the accuracy of bills, statements, vouchers, and receipts.
- Contact vendors to correct errors if needed.
- Prepares monthly financial statements and various aspects of accounts payable and receivable.
- Responsible for accounts payable and receivable and will need to answer inquiries concerning them.
- Verifies and posts deposits or transactions and keep records up to date.
- Works with the Grant Administrator regarding funding management for grant projects.
- Prepares all tax forms.
- Reconciles all bank statements.
- The town treasurer is required to attend the monthly workshop meeting of the Mayor & Council to present financial reports and answer questions.
- This position also helps with customer service in Town Hall, must be polite and cheerful when answering the phone, answering inquiries or complaints and will help collect money and assist with waiting on customers as needed. And other duties as assigned by the Town Manager and Mayor & Council of Federalsburg.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited high school with courses in bookkeeping and office procedures with an associate’s degree or 3 years’ experience. Or Three years’ experience in clerical/accounting work with one year of governmental accounting required.
- Must be able to present a neat appearance and project an appropriate diplomatic manner when dealing with public concerns, issues or questions.
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping principles and practices, business arithmetic and English.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures as well as google suites.
- Knowledge of data entry, ability to communicate effectively in the oral and written form.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, have a high clerical, mathematical and reasoning aptitude and ability to use a calculator.
