The Town of Franklin’s Department of Public Works (DPW) is seeking candidates for the Lead Pesticide Applicator / Crew Leader. This is a full-time benefited position and the incumbent will work 40 hours per week. The position will be in the Highway/Grounds Division and the schedule will be Tuesday through Saturday. Tuesday through Saturday shifts include a shift differential stipend of $75.00 per pay period.
Under the direction of the Highway and Grounds Superintendent, Assistant Highway & Grounds Superintendent, Working Highway/Grounds Forepersons, and associated Crew Leaders, the Lead Pesticide Applicator / Saturday Crew Leader is responsible for working with and overseeing the application and storage of pesticides on highways, parks and being responsible for leadership of the Department of Public Works crew members assigned to the Tuesday to Saturday work schedule and assigned primarily to Grounds.
The Lead Pesticide Applicator/ Crew Leader is responsible for the following:
- Provides extraordinary customer service
- Performs manual labor as a member of the DPW Crew
- Work history that demonstrates good working habits and an ability and willingness to work with supervisors and peers without conflict.
- Work history that demonstrates dependability, safety and concern for others, self, equipment and property.
- Safely and efficiently operates construction, landscaping and maintenance equipment
- Assists in setting and resetting curbs; in laying water pipe, sewer and drain lines, hot top, mixing and applying concrete, in constructing and repairing manholes and retaining structures; and in repairing sidewalks
- Paints, repairs, and erects signs, outdoor benches, and other equipment
- Prepares and maintains athletic fields/school playground areas and related facilities, including mowing and trimming of grass, lining athletic fields
- Plows and sands roads
- Reports to work in emergency situations and is able and willing to work overtime to respond to wind, rain, snow and ice storms, water breaks, and similar situations
- Conducts yearly field maintenance, such as: aerating, seeding, top dressing, etc
- Shovels and sweeps snow manually from sidewalks and streets, schools and streets; sands streets and sidewalks and school parking area
- Ability to respond to emergency calls within 30 minutes
- Performs other related duties as assigned in the DPW
The Crew Leader / Lead Pesticide Applicator operator must have the following licenses:
- Valid Manual Transmission Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an Air Brake Endorsement
- Valid Massachusetts hoisting license to operate loader, backhoe, excavator, catch basin cleaner, and special side boom mower (DPS 2A, 4E, and 4G)
- Pesticide Applicator’s License
The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States and be able to pass a criminal background check and a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug test.
