The Town is seeking a reliable Maintenance Technician at its Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance duties to ensure the efficient and safe operation of the plant's equipment and systems. This position requires a hands-on individual with a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standard of environmental and safety compliance.

- Plan and implement plant maintenance and repair services.
- Prepare and maintain maintenance and repair records.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems and perform necessary repairs. Perform preventive maintenance on treatment plant and equipment.
- Prepare and maintain detailed records on equipment, machinery, inspections, maintenance, and repair.
- Install and/or make major repairs to engines, pumps, controls, and compressors.
- Perform repairs and replace motors used for pumping.
- Remove and replace bearings and seals.
- Use hand, bench, and machine tools in the repair and maintenance of pumps, valves, and other plant machinery.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems such as shorts, relay malfunctions, loose connections, faulty limit switches, blown fuses, and make necessary repairs.
- Replace, repair, and maintain a variety of electrical and electronic components.
- Perform the maintenance of electronic, electric, or mechanical equipment.
- Check pumps, motors, filters, belts, compressors, connections, oil level, and temperature at treatment plant.
- Order replacement parts and maintain an inventory of recommended spare parts for the facility’s equipment.
- Check pumping and lift stations for proper operations.
- Grease pumps and motors as needed.
- Replace and repair bearings, shafts, sleeves, and other parts.
- Maintain inspection and maintenance records and recommend necessary repairs.
- Repair and replace worn out parts.
- Make tours of plant and ensure all mechanical equipment is operating properly.
- Perform manual cleaning or preventive maintenance duties as assigned.
- Maintain grounds using tractors, mowers, blowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc.
- Painting as needed throughout the facility.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Three (3) years of experience in plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repair preferred
- Valid driver's license
- CPR, First Aid, Confined Space Training within first six months of employment
Qualifications
- Knowledge of common practices, tools, and terminology of the trade
- Knowledge of mechanical trade operations
- Knowledge of job hazards, safety regulations, and environmental compliance related to wastewater operations
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Operation of power tools used by the department
- Operation of tractors, mowers and other related equipment used by the department
- Communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
- Organization and multi-tasking abilities
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
- Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans, or specifications
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
- Willingness to work flexible hours
Work Environment
- The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions.
- The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment
Physical Demands
- Wastewater Treatment Plant: This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
Salary : $19 - $31
