ROAD AND BRIDGE OPERATOR
The Road and Bridge Operator receives training in and performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled construction, maintenance and repair work requiring some use of independent judgment.
The Road and Bridge Operator works under the general supervision of the Public Work Director & Road and Bridge Superintendent and does not supervise any employees.
The following are essential job functions. Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. The Operator exercises duties in:
1) Routine vehicle maintenance and repair.
2) Adequate operation of motorized vehicles, including heavy-duty equipment.
3) Use of a motor grader to grade Town roads.
4) Vehicle assisted and manual snow removal from roadways and walkways.
5) Grounds maintenance.
6) Horticulture, including planting, weeding, fertilizing and general landscape maintenance.
7) Traffic control.
8) Knowledge of construction of wood, concrete, and miscellaneous facilities involving carpentry, painting, plumbing and basic electrical wiring.
9) Use of safety equipment.
10) Handling hazardous materials and chemicals.
11) Confined space and hazardous area entry.
12) Road maintenance and repair.
13) Identifying various other problems throughout Town, creating and assigning Work Orders, following up and inspection.
14) Adequate knowledge of tools and equipment common to manual labor and construction.
15) Ability to solve basic mathematical problems.
16) Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods of time, including;
a. Operating various types of tools and equipment associated with street, water, park, or ground maintenance
b. Lifting, carrying and loading/unloading heavy items and materials
c. Removing snow by hand with shovel and snow-blower
d. Hand digging, sweeping and raking various landscaping, grounds and street materials
e. Accessing and working from below-grade trenches and above-grade ladders, scaffolds or platforms
f. Walking throughout work areas containing various topographical conditions, visually identifying needed work, and inspecting work results
17) Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
18) Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and co-workers
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1) Must possess and maintain a current Colorado driver’s license.
2) Must be at least 18 years of age.
3) Must have dependable transportation.
4) Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends and holidays for extended periods of time for overtime or comp pay.
5) Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
6) Ability to operate a road grader.
EDUCATION
Must be High School graduate or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
1) 1-2 years of experience as in Road and Bridge or Public Works experience.
2) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
