WHAT WE NEED:
The Town of Harrisburg currently has an employment opportunity in our Parks and Recreation Department for a Parks Superintendent. This is a great opportunity for someone who is up for the challenge of a busy Parks and Recreation operation. An employee in this class is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and participating in the operation and maintenance of various parks and recreation facilities. In addition, the employee participates in capital projects financing, planning, facility maintenance, custodial engineering and construction management including grant development and management. Recreational facilities include but are not limited to, parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, pond management, trails, shelters, and amphitheater. Work involves supervision of full-time, part-time, and seasonal programming, facility and maintenance staff. Work involves participation in budget development, purchasing supplies and equipment, overseeing development, custodial operations, new construction, and renovation projects. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, effective horticultural practices, and OSHA and County safety standards and regulations. Work requires exposure to inside and outside environments, extreme temperatures, and exposure to vibrations, noise, gases, mists, odors, and oils and may require the use of a mask. The employee may be exposed to human body fluids and thus is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens.
DESIREABLE CANDIDATE:
We are looking for a graduate from an accredited college or university with major course work in Parks and Recreation Management, Natural Resource Management, or related field, and 2-5 years’ experience working in natural resource management with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The preferred candidate must possess CPR/First Aid Certification, Ornamental Pesticide license, Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) certification, and Aquatics Facility Operator certification; or have the ability to obtain these within 6 months of hire. Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.

The hiring range is $59,830 - $74,424 and starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and prior experience. Will also be eligible for $3,500 sign-on onus upon hire.
