DESCRIPTION
Town Marshal
Hermosa, SD
The Town of Hermosa desires applicants have a stable work history, no criminal history (other than minor traffic citations), and have an interest in serving and protecting the community. The Town will consider applicants who possess these collective qualities and experience when determining an applicant’s suitability for employment.
The position of Town Marshal requires the applicant have a law enforcement certification, or have the ability to transfer another state's certification through the reciprocity process, or have the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire. This position is responsible for the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and the protection of life and property within the jurisdiction of Hermosa, South Dakota, including, but not limited to:
1. Perform assigned duties such as investigating traffic accidents, responding to emergency situations, and conducting public education programs.
2. Patrol designated areas of the town; answer calls in emergency and nonemergency situations; and initiate action on matters coming to the attention of the officer, including preparing citations.
3. Compile information; prepare and complete reports.
4. Conduct investigations, including gathering and preserving evidence, obtaining statements, and making arrests.
5. Investigate accidents; administer first aid or other aid when necessary.
6. Serve criminal process, including warrants and subpoenas; testify as a court witness.
7. Perform other such duties and functions as are necessary or incidental to the proper performance of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.
Age: Candidates must be at least 21 years of age. Status: Must be a US citizen.
Background: Must have no criminal convictions other than minor traffic citations. License: Valid South Dakota driver's license.
Certification: It is required that applicants hold a current law enforcement certification in South Dakota, or have the ability to transfer another state's certification through the reciprocity process, or the ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
Must meet the minimum requirements as established by the Law Enforcement Standards Board.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Applicants that meet the above-listed requirements will be invited for an interview which will determine eligibility for a conditional offer of employment. Such applications are to be received by the Town Board within 30 days.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
A candidate receiving a conditional offer of employment will undergo a background investigation, psychological evaluation, physical examination and drug screening.
