Essential Functions:
Assists the Director with the development and coordination of a comprehensive schedule of activities, events and programs for residents over the age of 60 including the implementation of social, health, educational, exercise, wellness and leisure programs. to meet the interests, needs and financial means of the elderly.
Manages all promotions for KCOA publications including, but not limited to: Town website, Facebook, media print, fliers and promotional displays.
Prepares layout, design, and ensures production and distribution of monthly newsletter; working closely with various departments to collect content.
Assists the Director with the town’s Senior Tax Work-Off Abatement Program and facilitations accurate communication between participants and town departments.
Assists the Director in the preparation and administration of the department's operating budget as well as the researching, preparation and administration of grant applications.
Assists in the collection of accurate data documenting the activity levels of the department.
Serves as liaison on behalf of the Council on Aging to promote the use of the Senior Center and participation in department sponsored programs and services through public relations and news media attends civic conferences or meetings of other agencies involved with the elderly.
Participates in various professional organizations including MCOA, to remain current with changes in regulations/laws as well as new techniques regarding the provision of services to the elderly.
Employee will be expected to carry out any other duties as are reasonably requested by the Director of Elder Affairs.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three to five (3-5) years prior work experience in the field of Elder Care, Social Services or Municipal Governance or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Special Requirements: CORI certification is required as a condition of employment. First aid and CPR Certification is required; valid Class D Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skill
Knowledge: Knowledge and general appreciation of the aging process; understanding of the physical and emotional impact of aging and support services on a local, regional or state-wide basis to meet those needs; knowledge of grant writing and sources of funding; knowledge and understanding of local government, local Bylaws as well as state and federal regulations pertaining to the provision of elderly services. Knowledge of office software (word processing, spread sheet applications), the Internet, social media and web sites in support of department operations.
Abilities: Ability to work independently and to assess individual elder service needs of all ages with care and empathy; ability to set priorities; ability to multitask and to work with various groups and individuals particularly the elderly and their families in a calm and professional demeanor; ability to be sensitive to the needs of the elderly and to work with highly sensitive, personal, confidential information.
Skill: Proficient oral and written communication skills. Proficient customer service and conflict resolution skills. Graphic design experience highly preferred.
