JOB SUMMARY
Designs and implements new and existing programs for the Lenox Community Center. Interacts with, seeks to understand, and supports the needs of program participants and their families (when applicable). The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Director implementing youth and adult programming, sports and community events. The Program Coordinator will also assist the Council on Aging Coordinator with planning new senior and inter-generational programs as well as other aspects of the COA duties. Performs varied duties with children and adults in a variety of settings. Work requires creativity, independence and self-initiative.
SUPERVISION
Serves under the direction and works closely with the Community Center Director. Assists in supervising staff, volunteers, program staff and afterschool staff. The Community Center Board oversees operations, setting policies and approving proposed programming.
MAJOR DUTIES (essential job functions)
- Develops new programs based on understanding of community needs.
- Serves as the Program Coordinator of the Lenox Community Center and acts as a backup to the Director.
- Manages the operations of the Community Center After School Program (the “Gameroom”); supervises Gameroom staff; organizes afternoon programming including special classes; plans minicamps and outings during school vacations.
- Coordinates and helps the Director with the LCC newsletter and all other communications as needed.
- Assists in the organization of the various educational, support, and sports programs; develops new programming based upon interest.
- Assists the Director with seeking out and implementing new programming for the community. (i.e.; bus trips, social gatherings, holiday events)
- Provides general assistance to the Director and works on special projects as assigned. Will cover for the Council on Aging Coordinator as needed.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Jobs are performed in a variety of work environments ranging from an office setting/indoor activity space to the athletic field to urban/rural settings for special field trips. Operates office equipment and handles various program equipment/supplies. In frequent contact with the general public, working directly with young people and adults.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While minimal physical effort is required to perform the duties under typical office conditions, moderate physical effort is required when engaged in athletic activities and running the various special activities of the summer day camp. The varied demands of the job require a high energy level and ability to multitask. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and smell.
RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a supervisory position with very strong interpersonal skills and working with municipal or community organizations providing similar services is preferred.
- Three years’ experience working with young people in sports/games/crafts.
- Experience in developing programming for youth and adults.
- Familiarity with the community is a strong plus.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Strong computer and organizational skills is a must.
- Training in first aid, CPR, and water safety desirable as is formal training in recreation/sports management.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are roughly Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Occasional morning, evening, and weekend work may be required as job duties demand, when this occurs, you will adjust your hours accordingly within the same pay period.

Pay: $58,000.00 - $64,000.00 per year
