Job Overview
Certified Maine Criminal Justice Academy graduates with current police certification as well as out of state certified officers who have been in law enforcement for a minimum of 5 years are encouraged to apply.
The Police Sergeant plays a critical leadership role within the law enforcement team, responsible for supervising police officers and ensuring the effective enforcement of laws and regulations. This position requires strong leadership skills, a commitment to community safety, and the ability to manage various law enforcement activities. The Police Sergeant will also be involved in training and mentoring junior officers, conducting criminal investigations, and overseeing daily operations within the department.
Duties
- Supervise and lead a team of police officers, providing guidance and support in daily operations.
- Conduct criminal investigations, gather evidence, and prepare detailed reports for cases.
- Manage surveillance operations to monitor suspicious activities and ensure public safety.
- Implement loss prevention strategies to protect community assets and resources.
- Handle animal-related incidents with appropriate care and professionalism.
- Train new recruits on departmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Respond to emergency situations and provide first aid or CPR as needed.
- Collaborate with community organizations to foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the public.
- Maintain knowledge of current laws, regulations, and policing techniques.
Experience
Candidates should possess a combination of relevant experience and skills that demonstrate their capability for this role. Ideal qualifications include:
- Leadership experience in law enforcement or related fields.
- Familiarity with criminal investigation processes and techniques.
- Experience in surveillance operations and loss prevention strategies.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR is highly desirable.
