What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Assistant Harbormasters position at Town of Mashpee?
Key Responsibilities:
- Patrol waterways in Mashpee and enforce all waterways and boating laws;
- Write and issue violations and citations as required;
- Participate in search and rescue operations on the waterways;
- Install, remove, maintain, and clean Aids to Navigation;
- Perform vessel pump-out duties;
- Operate departmental vehicles and vessels in accordance with all navigational and safety rules.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Graduate or GED;
- Experience working in a similar or like position;
- Professional boating experience required.
We prefer Coast Guard, police or maritime experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. You should also have knowledge of boating and Mashpee Town By-laws, MGL Chapter 90 Section B.
You must possess basic seamanship skills and be able to operate vessels in accordance with all Coast Guard navigation rules. Additionally, you must be at least 18 years old and successfully pass a hands-on Boating Skills Test.
We require a valid MA driver's license (Class D) and MA Boating Safety Certification. You must also possess current CPR and First Aid Certifications or obtain them upon appointment. Finally, you must successfully pass a C.O.R.I. background check.
