The Town of Medfield is seeking an Assistant Town Accountant / Procurement Officer to join our team in a dual-role position. Key Responsibilities
Accounting Functions:
- Assist in maintaining and processing the Town’s financial records, ensuring compliance with municipal finance laws.
- Manage general accounting duties, including maintaining ledgers, reconciliations, and cash books.
- Process vendor and payroll warrants, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Support audit processes and respond to accounting inquiries from employees, vendors, and the public.
Procurement Functions:
- Review procurements over $10,000 for compliance with procurement laws.
- Assist with RFPs and IFBs, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
- Manage surplus property disposal and monitor grant fund expenditures.
- Work closely with departments to manage the disposal of surplus property in accordance with procurement guidelines.
- Manage grant funds, ensuring expenditures are tracked and compliant with grant terms.
- Attend occasional night meetings as needed.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent training in accounting, business, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of related accounting experience, with knowledge of municipal finance preferred.
- Certifications: Must obtain Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official (MCPPO) certification within 18 months of hire.
- Skills:
- Knowledge of accounting principles, municipal finance, and procurement regulations.
- Proficiency in accounting software and office productivity tools (Excel, Word).
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
Working Environment:
- Location: Office-based position with minimal physical demands (office work with occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds).
- Schedule: Full-time with occasional evening meetings.
