TITLE: Gate Attendant Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Beach
REPORTS TO: Beach Manager, Deputy Beach Manager, or Designee
JOB TYPE: Seasonal: May 24 – September 1, 2025
WORK SCHEDULE: TBD hours per week. Weekdays, Weekends/Evenings required.
SALARY: In accordance with established Pay Scale
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Gate Attendant Supervisor is a seasonal position with the Town of Middletown responsible for allowing beach patrons access to the beach and supervising Gate Attendants. This position entails a leadership role in establishing high customer service standards and tactfully handling all customer situations including complaints. This role provides a liaison between the Beach/Deputy Managers and Gate Attendants. The Gate Supervisor ensures responsible and safe behavior, the absence of drugs, alcoholic beverages, pets, and is responsible for reporting any situation beyond his/her control to the appropriate Beach manager or Middletown Police officer on duty as necessary.
I ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.   • Greet all patrons in a professional manner, offering a high level of customer service.
  • Work directly with the Beach Manager providing daily support to the Gate Attendant staff.
  • Responsible for helping with training and daily/weekly scheduling of the Gate Attendants.
  • Be able to perform all the duties and responsibilities of the Gate Attendant and have an in-depth knowledge of the Town’s policies for seasonal beach passes and daily passes.
  • Collaborate with team members on daily operational tasks.
  • Work with Revenue office personnel to ensure cash drawers balance out at the end of the assigned shift and report any errors to Beach Management on duty.
  • To follow cash deposits and collections in accordance with established protocols, ensuring that daily collections are always kept safe.
  • To watch for violations of the Town’s ordinances as posted and to report infractions beyond the control of the Gate Attendant to the appropriate manager, such as those related to smoking, alcohol, drugs, litter, or pets.
  • To direct visitors to available parking spots, if applicable.
  • Assist with beach cleanliness and trash pick-up as needed. All beach employees are required to help keep the beach facilities, parking lots, and beach area clean and litter free. During daily slow periods the GA Supervisor can assist GAs to help pick up trash around the gates and in the parking lots as needed. However, trash picking is secondary to other duties and responsibilities.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
II NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the position and/or be learned within a short period of time to successfully perform the assigned duties:
  • Requires basic knowledge of cashiering.
  • Must be able to be courteous to the staff, managers, beach patrons and the public.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and demonstrate a commitment to the highest quality of customer service
  • Must be able to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

III MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from High School or a GED equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in performing the above-mentioned responsibilities is preferred.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must be available to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
  • Must successfully pass a background investigation.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside coastal weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to various weather conditions and very loud noise levels.
