Description:
Under the Supervision of the Superintendent of Highways and Deputy Superintendent of Highways, the Laborer will be responsible for:
- A variety of manual labor tasks like raking and shoveling asphalt to patch potholes or assistance in the paving of roads;
- Assistance in the installation, maintenance and repair of sidewalks or other projects by shoveling, jackhammering, laying forms, and pouring cement i.e;
- Assistance in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pipeline by excavating, laying pipe, and backfilling;
- Cleaning, loading and unloading trucks;
- Cutting brush, removal of dead trees, lawn mowing;
- Shoveling snow and spreading salt;
- Operates power tools and equipment such as saws, mixers, jackhammers and tampers;
- Acts as a flag person on street jobs;
Desired Competencies:
Working knowledge of the care and safe use of common hand and power tools found in construction and maintenance; ability to perform routine physical labor; ability to follow oral instructions; willingness to work under all weather conditions; physical endurance
Minimum Qualifications:
None is required, but some experience in heavy manual labor is desired.
Special Requirement:
Candidate must possess and maintain a New York State Driver’s License.
Schedule: Full Time / 40 hours per week. Monday to Thursday from 6:00AM to 4:30PM or
Compensation: $20.09 per hour.
