Job Summary:
The Town of Mount Jackson invites applications for a seasonal Aquatics Manager position. This role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the local community pool, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of patrons, and supervising the aquatics staff. This position requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment. The Seasonal Aquatics Manager works closely with the Parks and Recreation position to manage lifeguard schedules, enforce safety protocols, maintain cleanliness and facility standards.
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
- Willingness to partner and participate with town staff to support other Mount Jackson initiatives, activities, events, and programs that benefit our community
- Oversee the daily operation of the town pool, including opening, closing and overall facility management
- Provide exceptional customer service to patrons, addressing questions, concerns and complaints promptly
- Supervise seasonal lifeguards and is responsible for submitting staff timecards to payroll
- Create and manage staff schedules to always ensure adequate coverage
- Conduct staff meetings, training sessions, and safety drills
- Monitor staff performance, provide coaching, and address disciplinary issues in coordination with the Parks and Recreation manager and other town staff
- Enforce all pool rules and regulations to ensure patron and staff safety
- Respond to emergencies, administer first aid/CPR, and complete incident reports as required
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment and facilities, reporting maintenance issues promptly
- Oversee and ensure cleanliness of the guard shack, and all patron areas including restrooms
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations
- Monitor pool chemistry levels and ensure proper water quality, coordinating with maintenance staff as needed
- Manage procurement and inventory of supplies, including first aid materials, cleaning products, and concessions
- Manage point of sale and accurate accounting of money for all concession items
- Oversee scheduling of pool parties, shelter and pool passes
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Seasonal position:
- May through the first weekend in September
- The Town pool is open daily from 11am-6pm
- Availability includes mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
- Ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work independently, exercise initiative and autonomous judgement
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of staff and town leadership
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships externally within the community
- Skill in using computers (standard office software)
- Ability to communicate effectively and correctly both orally and in writing
- Dependable, flexible, and dedicated to providing excellent customer service
- Reliable attendance is necessary
- Ability to travel for required training
- Willingness to obtain a Certified Pool Operator certification
- Willingness to obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises the seasonal lifeguards
Physical Demands:
Tasks may include moderate physical effort including lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of carts, materials and other items weighing up to 50 pounds. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to grip, handle or feel. Work requires frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling crouching, sitting, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work has some exposure to environmental conditions and is performed outside.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Experience in aquatics, such as lifeguarding, swimming instructor or pool management a plus
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- Public service and/or other experience may be considered
- Current Lifeguard Certification required
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required
- Certified Pool Operator certification or Aquatics Facility Operator certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
- A background check and drug screen will be performed
