About the Position
The Town of Mount Morris is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and results-driven individual to serve as the Highway Superintendent. This critical leadership role is responsible for overseeing the construction, maintenance, and repair of town roads, bridges, and drainage systems, as well as managing highway department staff and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, supervise, and direct all highway department operations, including road construction, maintenance, and repair.
- Develop and manage the department’s annual budget to ensure cost-effective use of resources.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to highway and transportation projects.
- Oversee the maintenance and operation of department vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
- Supervise and train highway department employees, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Coordinate with town officials, residents, and external contractors to address road-related concerns and priorities.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations such as snowstorms, flooding, or road hazards, ensuring timely and effective resolutions.
- Prepare and submit required reports, documentation, and project updates to town officials.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in highway maintenance, construction, or a related field (minimum of 5 years preferred).
- Strong leadership and management skills with prior experience supervising teams.
- Knowledge of road construction techniques, equipment, and materials.
- Familiarity with budgeting, contract negotiation, and project management.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
- Ability to operate heavy equipment as needed.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with municipal or government operations.
- Certification or training in highway maintenance or public works management.
Residency Requirement
Candidates must live in the Town/Village of Mount Morris or be within 15 minutes of a call-in for emergencies or urgent matters.
Compensation
This position offers a competitive salary ranging from $65,000 to $75,000 annually, with potential negotiation based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include:
