JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for administering advanced emergency medical care, managing various medical incidents, and performing exterior fire suppression and support functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide leadership during medical/trauma calls by controlling the scene and directing EMTs.
Administer BLS and ALS Care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital settings.
Administer drugs, orally, nasally, rectally, intravenously, or by injection.
Conduct daily inspection of department’s equipment and apparatus and ensure that equipment and apparatus are in place and ready for use.
Ensure all pre-hospital drug quantities are correct and the medications are in date.
Is responsible for the narcotics on the assigned unit, including their security, and the tracking of their administration and use.
Ensure that the station is kept in an orderly fashion.
Participate in community service programs.
Participate in department training courses to learn firefighting theory and practice, SC DHEC Continuing Education Program, and the handling of hazardous materials and explosives.
Work independently with occasional review of work performance or records.
Assist with establishing a water supply on a fire scene.
Operate exterior handlines and master stream devices on a fire scene.
Place ground ladders for access and egress on a fire scene.
Assist in the evacuation of fire victims on a fire scene.
Perform emergency driving role including the driving of an ambulance when needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
High School Diploma and one (1) year of relevant experience.
Or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
Valid South Carolina Driver’s.
Valid National Registry Paramedic Certification.
Must successfully complete the annual medical physical.
Must successfully complete the annual Physical Agility Test (PAT).
