Seasonal Park Laborer Position(s)
For: Veteran’s Memorial Park
Position: Park Laborer/Seasonal Position (April – Oct/Nov)
Schedule/Hours: April, May, & until Mid-June: up to 20/hrs.
Mid-June, July, & until Mid-August: up to 40/hrs.
Mid-August, October, & November: up to 20/hrs.
(Start-End date depends on whether)
The Town of Old Orchard Beach (ME) is looking to hire an individual to assist with maintaining the beauty and upkeep of the Veteran’s Memorial Park. Listed below are some of the essential duties and responsibilities of these positions:
1. Overall care and maintenance of the park (except mowing): a. Watering b. Weeding c. Planting (shrubs, flowers, etc.…) d. Pruning e. Mulching
2. Landscaping (edging, stone dust, etc.…)
3. Fertilizing (including deep probe)
4. Must know and understand the proper principles and techniques used in the maintenance of public parks and gardens.
5. Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools, like shovels, axes, weed eaters and post-hole diggers.
6. Must have valid driver’s license to drive Gator within the park.
7. Assist with minor repairs within the park.
8. This position reports directly to the Director of Public Works.
9. Guidance on work tasks is also provided by an experienced gardener from the Memorial Park
Commission.
The Town of Old Orchard Beach would be willing to discuss with student employees, how we could assist them during their employment to achieve the requirements of their Summer Work Program – for example:
Projects they would like/need to do and/or cross pollination work.
