What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facility Shift Leader, 19 hrs/week - Community Center position at Town of Oro Valley?
Serves in a Lifeguarding capacity and, under direction, supervises, monitors, and coordinates lifesaving personnel, daily operation and maintenance activities of the Town's Parks & Recreation Department.
- Ensures the health and safety of employees and patrons.
- Performs routine water tests and makes necessary adjustments to pool chemicals.
- Prepares pool and facility for the opening and/or closing of the day.
- Searches for and removes safety hazards.
- Maintains cleanliness of pool and facility.
- Supervises the day-to-day activities including communicating, scheduling work, training, evaluating, and motivating staff.
- Maintains records, and reports on daily attendance, maintenance, cash receipts, and prepares and verifies cash register amounts.
- Operates and performs preventative maintenance on pool equipment including, but not limited to, the pump room.
- Provides customer service and answers questions, complaints or concerns.
- Responds to emergency situations by performing First Aid, CPR and/or Lifeguard Training Rescues/Techniques.
- Assists with personnel actions such as selection, promotion, discipline, and evaluations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of customer service techniques and methods.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Knowledge of pool maintenance and operation techniques.
- Knowledge of Town and Department policies and procedures.
- Skill in planning and implementing department and swimming pool practices and procedures.
- Skill in responding to emergency situations including safely rescuing drowning victims and administering CPR and First Aid.
- A High School diploma or GED.
- One (1) year experience as a Lifeguard.
- Must possess at time of application and maintain American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) certifications.
- Must obtain within 90 days of hire, and maintain, American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor and Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
- Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
- Occasional exposure to communicable diseases associated with first aid procedures.
- Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to temperatures that exceed 110 degrees.
- Frequent exposure to chemical hazards including calcium hypochlorite and muriatic acid.
- Occasional exposure to mechanical and/or electrical hazards associated with pool operational equipment.
- Frequent exposure to noise and vibration relating to pool operational equipment.
- Seasonal exposure to moisture/humidity as well as extreme temperatures.
- Must be able to lift or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
