Then please read on because the Town of Paradise Valley is hiring for the position of Permit Technician! In support of the Town of Paradise Valleys (Town) mission to provide high-quality public services to a community that values limited government, the Permit Technician serves as the public face of the Community Development Department, performing complex technical support and customer service functions in support of the Building, Engineering, and Planning Divisions.

More specifically, the Permit Technician:

  • Issues building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, demolition and other permits.
  • Maintains files of planning and building permits, applications, inspection records, plans and logs.
  • Checks planning and building permit applications and supporting documentation for adherence to the municipal code to determine a minimum level of completeness.
  • Calculates and collects permit and plan review fees.
  • Utilizes and helps maintain the permitting database and assists with systems updates and modifications.
  • Works with vendor to address and resolve permitting database issues.
  • Creates required reports using the permitting system database.
  • Assists the public at the Community Development counter, by email and by telephone.
  • Provides customer service to public in Town Hall.
  • Researches, resolves, and documents complex issues and customer complaints.
  • Schedules inspections for building inspectors.

To become a Permit Technician, the Town requires the following:

Permit Technician 1 ($26.06-$34.75):

  • Two years of technical and/or customer support experience, in the private development or municipal permitting process, including utilization of a geographic information database, in a development, architectural, building, engineering, or planning environment, including considerable public contact.
  • A valid class D Arizona drivers license.

Permit Technician 2 ($27.37-$36.49):

  • Four years of technical construction related background with public contact in private development / municipal permitting and plan review in an architectural, building, engineering, or planning environment, to also include administering the citywide addressing policy.
  • A valid class D Arizona drivers license.
  • Possession of an ICC Building Permit Technician certificate.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • The deadline to apply is Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 11:59 p.m.

  • Applicants must meet the posted minimum requirements.
  • The successful applicant must pass a background investigation which may include employment, driving, and criminal history checks.
