What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Program Supervisor position at Town of Plainfield?
The Program Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all recreational programming for the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation & Aquatics Center and other designated parks facilities.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinates the programming of all guest activities in the Carlucci Center and designated facilities to include group fitness classes, recreation/building programs including camps and sports leagues, contracted programs and assisting with aquatic programs as needed.
- Provides excellent guest service by answering questions and responding to their needs in a timely manner.
- Manages the purchasing of supplies for programs and overall programming operations.
- Works to recruit and fill programs with participants that are offered by the Carlucci Center.
- Records registration information for all programs, as requested.
- Coordinates schedules for the aerobics instructors, Camp, PJBL, parks youth leagues and other programs.
- Works with the publishing vendor and Communications Director by providing the appropriate information for and editing the Parks and Recreation Department Program Guide.
- Monitors the performance and service provided by contracted programmers and records invoices per the guidelines of the contract to include: monitoring the budget and assessing work quality.
- Prepares extensive monthly and annual reports relating to the budget and programming operations of the Carlucci Center including reporting on cost recovery goals.
- Assists with the development of and manages the programming operational budget.
- Works closely with the Assistant Aquatic Manager and Special Events Coordinator for the collaborative management of all Carlucci Center programing.
- Works closely with the Leisure Services Manager to develop short-term and long-term planning goals and capital improvement recommendations with regards to programming.
- Participates on the marketing and promotions team to market and promote use and sales at assigned facilities and assists with the development of recreation marketing materials and brochures.
- Conducts market research to determine customer satisfaction and opportunities to improve and/or add programs and services.
- Regularly supervises, instructs and participates in all recreation and aquatic programming and special events.
- Assists with supervision and staffing of the Carlucci Center and parks operations as needed.
- Attends meetings, as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises part-time programming employees and volunteers. Employee carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; scheduling and approving time worked; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B.A. /B.S.) from a four-year college or university; and three years related programming experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience managing programming in a large recreation facility is required. Certified Park and Recreation Professional designation is desired.

While the RAC is open from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, this position may require work beyond these hours and on holidays. It also may require the ability to drive a Parks and Recreation Department vehicle. Thus, a valid driver’s license may be required.
