Recreation and Aquatics Center (RAC) Facility Maintenance Supervisor

The Recreation & Aquatics Center (RAC) Facility Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of the grounds, building, and building equipment at the RAC.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Supervises and maintains the RAC’s grounds by mowing the grass, weed eating, planting flowers, trees and bushes, and trimming trees and bushes, as needed.
  2. Performs and leads maintenance activities on the indoor and outdoor pools to include: daily operations, the seasonal opening, closing, and winterizing activities, and all other equipment-related repairs and maintenance.
  3. Performs and supervises preventative maintenance and light repairs on all heating and air conditioning units, as well as the water heating system in the building.
  4. Performs and supervises preventative maintenance, light repairs, and cleaning duties in all building facilities to include: restrooms, conference rooms, offices, kitchen, etc.
  5. Directs the removes snow and applies salt at the RAC, as assigned.
  6. Supervises the routine daily inspection and preventative maintenance on all Parks and Recreation-owned equipment used at the RAC and reports needed repairs and/or replacement to the Parks and Recreation Department Manager.
  7. Performs administrative duties to include: maintaining records relating to repairs, replacements, and maintenance-related activities.
  8. Assists the Parks and Recreation Department Manager with the ordering and purchasing of supplies for the parks and aquatics division.  
  9. Responds to complaints regarding damaged property on the grounds or in the facility and reports findings to the Parks and Recreation Department Manager.
  10. Operates trucks and utility trailers of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, mulch, brick dust, gravel and sand.
  11. Coordinates with any building or equipment-related contractors doing work in the pools or facility.
  12. Serves as the project manager for small remodeling and/or construction projects at RAC.
  13. Attends meetings, as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises the full-time RAC Facility Maintenance Operators as well as part-time pool and building maintenance employees. Employee carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include participating in the interview process and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; scheduling and approving time worked; appraising performance; suggesting discipline of employees to Parks Maintenance Operations Manager; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience working in a maintenance job performing semi-skilled to skilled maintenance work is required. Previous supervisory experience is desired.Other Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired.
  • Computer software skills required include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Rec Trac.
  • The ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgment, within specified parameters is required.
  • The ability to follow instructions regarding the use of pool chemicals is required.
  • The ability to operate water analysis equipment to ensure proper water chemistry is required.
  • A working knowledge of the maintenance and repair of pool equipment is required.
  • A working knowledge of landscaping and annual and perennial flowers and trees that are on the grounds is required.
  • A Certified Pool Operators Certification is desired.
  • The ability to use and learn several types of technology to include: irrigation systems, and scheduling software for facilities maintenance is required.
  • A working knowledge of HVAC systems, water heaters, and general electrical and plumbing functions within the facility and facility-related equipment is required.
  • The ability to be able to get in and out of the air handlers and to use hands to work on the controller and the variable air volume (VAV) boxes is required.
  • The ability to operate motorized vehicles and equipment to include: pick-up truck, utility truck, saws, pumps, tractors, riding and walking lawn mowers, weed eaters, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, ditch witch, snow removal equipment, salting equipment, and mobile radio is required.
  • A working knowledge of vendor contracts and agreements is required.
  • The ability to enforce rules and follow all established protocols and guidelines is required.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public is required.
  • The ability to remain current with all required licenses, certifications and in-service requirements is required.
  • First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications are desired.
  • The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required.
  • The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

Work Environment:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outdoor weather conditions. The employee frequently is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; and extreme heat (non-weather). The employee occasionally is exposed to work in high, precarious places; extreme cold (non-weather); and the risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
 
While the Parks & Recreation offices are open from dusk to dawn, Monday through Friday, this position may require work beyond these hours and on the weekends. It also requires the ability to drive Parks & Recreation Department vehicles. Thus, a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is desired.

Salary : $38,480 - $66,477
