Description

In addition to the typical duties described in the job description, this position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on traffic operations using state-of-the-art interconnected traffic flow solutions. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of four years of relevant experience and knowledge of traffic signal systems with demonstrated expertise in traffic signal timing and coordination. A Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is preferred.
Key Responsibilities include :
- Develop, implement, and optimize traffic signal timing plans to improve traffic flow and reduce delays.
- Conduct traffic signal coordination using Centracs Mobility.
- Conduct traffic studies to determine the need for new traffic signals, stop signs, and other traffic controldevices in compliance with MUTCD standards.
- Evaluate pedestrian and bicycle crossing warrants and recommend appropriate infrastructure improvements.
- Perform crash analysis and identify high-risk locations requiring safety improvements.
- Evaluate and recommend mitigation measures, such as geometric changes, signage enhancements, orsignal modifications.
- Analyze intersection and roadway operations to improve capacity and safety.
- Evaluate and design lane assignments, turn lanes, and channelization.
- Respond to public inquiries and concerns about traffic operations and safety.

Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing, leading and overseeing the work of staff engaged in providing development engineering support to Town staff, developers, engineers, architects and contractors by analyzing, interpreting and performing engineering plan design, review, and field inspections, and designing and coordinating small construction projects and contracts.

Incumbent(s) perform the full range of advanced engineering duties that demonstrates broad practical knowledge in a variety of processes, methods, techniques and best practices. Work involves planning and coordinating difficult assignments, the modification of established guidelines, and the initiation of new approaches. May be responsible for daily work assignments, conducting work reviews, training staff in work procedures, and providing recommendations to management.

Education and Experience :
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Transportation, or a closely related field, and 6 years of professional experience in the planning, design and / or construction of transportation projects. Municipal experience highly desirable.
