Health and Safety Assistant (Provisional)
Please be advised that there now exists one (1) opening within the Office of the Comptroller for the position of provisional Health and Safety Assistant.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The Health and Safety Assistant will assist in the planning, development and implementation of workplace injury/illness prevention and claim mitigation programs for a large local municipality. The incumbent will have primary responsibility for analyzing workplace injuries and recommending corrective actions in support of organization-wide Risk Management efforts.
Responsibilities include but not limit to:
Review and analyze workplace injury claim to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions;
Develop, present and coordinate organization-wide safety training and education workshops to departments and individuals;
Maintain detail records of accidents, incidents and investigations;
Proactively evaluate work processes to mitigate unsafe procedures;
Compile and document standardized training and education materials and work processes;
Assist third party administrator in the processing of workers’ compensation claims;
Coordinate and manage Safety Committee meetings; Assist in the creation and documentation of Job Hazard Analysis
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of health and safety standards and regulations as specified in the Occupational Safety and Health Act and other applicable codes and regulations; ability to maintain accurate records and to prepare clear, concise reports; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(a) Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of experience in the development and/or implementation of employee health and/or safety programs that includes evaluation of accident trends and causes; or
(b)Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and six (6) years of experience in the development and/or implementation of employee health and/or safety programs that includes evaluation of accident trends and causes; or
(c)An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b).
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Please note that in order to be eligible for appointment, you must successfully complete the Civil Service examination for this title when it is offered, and be among the top three willing acceptors from the resulting eligible list.
All candidates for employment are subject to a medical examination and drug screen prior to appointment.
Must maintain a valid NYS Driver’s License.
PROPOSED SALARY
Salary will be determined in accordance with the provisions of the CSEA contract in effect.
The decision of the Town Comptroller, subject to Town Board approval will be final.
