The Town of South Kingstown is seeking applicants for the current Building Maintenance Technician vacancy. The Building Maintenance Technician will work under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Assistant Facilities Superintendent and is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks involving manual work in the cleaning and maintenance in the Public Safety Complex with a possibility of helping at other Town building if needed.
Responsibilities include basic custodial duties including sweeping, dusting, vacuuming floors, carpets and furniture, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, washing windows and walls, emptying garbage and recycling receptacles, and performing minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs which may involve painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical and other related work. This position may also be required to perform storm operations as needed and assigned.
The position will work Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm with a half hour unpaid lunch break. To qualify, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and one year of experience in the maintenance and care of buildings or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license. This position requires successful completion of a background check and physical. The starting salary for this NEA (local SKMEA) position is $22.48 per hour and upon successful completion of a six-month probation period, increases to $23.16 per hour. This position is associated with the Employee Retirement System of Rhode Island Pension Program, and earns up to 12 vacation days, 15 sick days and 3 personal days a year on top of 13 paid holidays as well as offers full medical, vision and dental coverage. This position is also eligible for incentive pay depending on skills certifications attained in accordance with the SKMEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
