The Town of South Kingstown is seeking an experienced individual for the role of full-time Recycling Coordinator. This position is shared with the Town of Narragansett and time is split between the communities although workspace is provided in South Kingstown. The person in this position is responsible for overseeing the implementation and enforcement of South Kingstown’s and Narragansett’s mandatory solid waste recycling program. This position is responsible to ensure private refuse haulers and property owners meet local and State recycling requirements and minimum recycling diversion rates. Duties include working closely with the RI Resource Recovery Corporation to meet their permitting requirements. Additionally, the Coordinator will work with Town staff to develop educational materials, respond to questions from the general public, private haulers and others and administer and enforce the Town’s solid waste and recycling ordinance and regulations.
This position requires a high school degree or GED equivalent. An Associate’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or related field is desirable. Candidates must have strong organizational skills, and a general understanding of waste management and recycling industry; and personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Candidates must also have strong communication skills and must have the ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with fellow workers, the public, and others, in a courteous manner.
The starting salary for this full-time 35 hours per week, is an hourly rate of $27.24 and upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period increases to $28.02.
