General Statement of Job
Seasonal Production / PositionThe Scenic Charge Artist of Vienna Youth Players will be responsible for painting and finishing the sets for VYP's annual summer musicals. The Scenic Charge Artist will interpret the director's vision and create design concepts to turn that vision into a reality. They will choose colors, textures, and patterns to utilize for each set piece. The Scenic Charge will coordinate and supervise adult and student volunteers and allocate workflow. The Scenic Charge will ensure the quality of the scenic treatments as well as keep equipment well maintained and the space clean and safe. Additionally, the Scenic Charge Artist will provide, borrow or purchase supplies (to be reimbursed by the VCC) as needed while keeping within the budget provided by the Director. The Scenic Charge Artist will collaborate with the Director, Assistant Director, Lighting Designer, and Set Director to build the full artistic concept and logistics of the scenes.
The set director works under the supervision of the Director of Vienna Youth Players.
Work Hours :
The Scenic Charge Artist will be expected to attend : Design and logistical meetings
Occur before and during the rehearsal process. The Director will schedule design and logistical meetings.
Tech days
The Set Director is responsible for scheduling tech days in coordination with the Director, Assistant Director, and Scenic Charge Artist keeping rehearsals and reservation time periods in consideration.Rehearsals : 7 : 00 p.m.-10 : 00 p.m. Monday through Friday, June and JulyAdditionally Reserved Times Available for Tech upon request.
The Scenic Charge Artist is not required to attend the show, but they will receive a complimentary ticket should they want to.2025 Production Dates :

Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Ultimately it is the director's responsibility to complete tasks needed to produce the show so additional tasks may be required.
Essential Functions :
Design the Set
Attend design and logistical meetings.After hearing the overall set design concepts from the show, provide design options for colors, patterns and textures.Collaborate with the Set Director to choose paint colors and design concepts.Borrow, Purchase, and Provide Supplies
Reach out to local schools and organizations to ask to borrow set pieces or supplies and coordinate pick up and returns.Provide, borrow or, if neither are possible, purchase supplies needed to paint and finish the set.Collect tax exempt forms from the Recreation Program Coordinator for stores you intend to shop at.Complete a vendor form for yourself and any volunteers making purchases.Track purchases and send receipts to the Recreation Program Coordinator II, Events for reimbursements.Adhere to the budget provided by the Director.Coordinate with the Vienna Community Center staff to drop off materials and supplies at times during which the stage is available.Lead Painting on Tech Days
Schedule tech days in coordination with the Set Director, Director and Assistant Director.Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to each tech day than when the volunteers are expected to arrive.Coordinate student and adult volunteers to help paint the set.Supervise all students and adult volunteers throughout the tech day.Delegate responsibilities to students and adult volunteers.Teach painting skills and tactics to students and adult volunteers.Complete the painting of each set piece needed.Pack up and clean the stage and surrounding areas at the end of each tech day.Communicate progress and plan at the end of each tech day with the Director, Assistant Director, and Set Director.Qualifications
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.Ability to give, understand, and carry out oral and written instructions.Ability to provide effective VYP staff, student and volunteer coordination.Ability to resolve disputes with firmness and impartiality.Knowledge of first aid practices and techniques.Ability to demonstrate professional work habits including reliability, dependability, punctuality, adaptability, creativity, and enthusiasm for the job.Ability to fulfill all duties with ethical conduct, individual initiative, creative problem solving, and responsive service.Ability to interact professionally and cooperatively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, coworkers, supervisors, participants, the general public, and all those encountered in the course of work
Minimum Training and Experience
3-5 years of experience in theater set construction, painting, or comparable experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses :
Must hold or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications. The Town of Vienna will provide training opportunities if needed.
