Highway Motor Equipment Operator Trainee
The Town of Webster is seeking permanent full time Highway Motor Equipment Operator Trainees who are interested in a career instead of a job. Must be able to thrive in an environment dedicated to excellence, safety and public service. This is a year-round 40-hour per week position with opportunity for overtime and premium pay for shift work. After 2-year traineeship, job matures into a full MEO position. Benefits include health insurance, dental coverage and pension.
Typical Duties:
Learns and performs various Highway maintenance tasks, including but not limited to:
- Operation of heavy equipment/vehicles/trucks, including backhoes, dump trucks, snowplows, pavers, loaders, bobcat loaders, etc. used for highways maintenance
- Manual labor such as cleaning, loading and unloading trucks, raking and shoveling asphalt or topsoil, snow shoveling, leaf pickup, tree trimming, storm sewer and drainage work and paving-related activities
- Semi-skilled maintenance or construction trades, such as masonry, carpentry, plumbing, painting, or other maintenance operations
- Operation of small equipment and power tools, such as generators, bush clippers, leaf loaders, lateral and mainline cameras, chainsaws, compressors, chippers, jackhammers, etc.;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Class B CDL
- Experience with asphalt, concrete or excavation work
- Commitment, common sense, and ambition for a life-long career
- Skilled trades such as electrical, framing, carpentry, plumbing
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have a clean driver’s license
- Requires ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Special Requirements
Background Checking: Applicants will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation, physical, driver license check and drug testing.
