ASSISTANT AQUATICS MANAGER
TOWN OF WESTWOOD
The Westwood Recreation Department is searching for an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Manager with outstanding Aquatics skills to support the Aquatics Manager in all aspects of managing the Aquatics Facility and Programs. This is an opportunity to build upon your experience in teaching, coaching, managing, and leadership. The sought-after candidate will blend a passion for aquatics with strong programming and supervisory skills, and possess good pool maintenance knowledge used in the efficient daily operation of the Aquatics Facility.
Qualifications and experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred and 3-5 years of experience in the Aquatics industry, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Coaching experience and excellent customer service, communication and computer skills necessary.
Special Requirements: Certified Water Safety Instructor (WSI); Certified in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; American Red Cross Lifeguard Certified Training; First Aid; Certified Pool Operator (CPO) required within 6 months of hire.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Monitor and ensure a clean, safe and inviting Aquatic area and facility and report any concerns for follow up.
- Provide supervisory assistance with hiring, training, scheduling and reviewing Aquatic staff. Serve as mentor to staff through actions and practices.
- Provide leadership and direct service in the areas of teaching, life guarding and coaching. Exhibit respect, courtesy and positive reinforcement while building effective relationships with patrons.
- Participate in basic and advanced swim, in-service training, and other related Aquatic instruction. Serve as the primary lifeguard during pool use or as needed.
- Participate in the administration of the Recreation Swim Team, such as pool scheduling, staffing, training, volunteer recruitment & management, using Active Hy-Tek Meet & Team Manager software, Colorado Timing System, league and parent communication, programming and special events. Ensure appropriate equipment is prepared.
- Respond quickly and effectively to rescues and administer first aid when needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of instructional techniques, methods and practices, including current state and local health codes.
- Perform routine pool maintenance including safe chemical handling, filtration & disinfecting systems, backwashing and safety checks.
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of facility use, programs, incidents, payroll and attendance logs, in-service training records, semi/private lessons, chemical log, budgets, and other computerized statistical data, use of Sportsman software.
- Act in place of the Aquatics Manager when manager is off duty or away. Communicates with the Aquatics Manager in an ongoing manner on all matters related to his/her area of responsibility.
- Participate in the execution of special event activities of the Recreation Department, including Westwood Day.
- Nights and weekends required.
Salary and benefits: Annual salary range $72,500 - $92,550 in ten steps. 40 hours per week requiring a flexible schedule. Westwood offers a robust benefits package that includes health, dental, life, disability insurance, flexible spending and a reliable pension system.
