Westwood Recreation Department

The Westwood Recreation Department is looking for energetic, conscientious and qualified candidates to fill the position of Water Safety Instructor (WSI) for the busy Winter Aquatic Sessions (January - March). A WSI's goal is to provide high quality experiences for participants that focus on Westwood Recreation's core values of safety, fun, responsibility and respect.

Responsibilities and duties include the following :

• Prepares, plans and implements all aspects of the American Red Cross Programs and presentations as detailed in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety manual.
• Plans, prepares and conducts effective and safe swim lessons.
• Implements emergency protocols as the situation dictates.
• Upholds and enforces facility rules and regulations.
• Evaluates participants and recommends placement for future classes.
• Completes course reports and documentation.
• Ensures the safety of participants and monitors swimming activity to prevent accidents.
• Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications and experience : Must be at least 16 years of age. Prior experience working with children in a group setting desired. Effective interpersonal and communication skills and ability to react quickly and calmly in various situations are essential.

Special Requirements / Certifications Needed : Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification to include CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification, and Water Safety Instructor Certification required.

Salary : This is a part-time, non-benefit position with a starting rate of $18.50 per hour.

Schedule : Weekday afternoons from 3 : 00 - 4 : 00 PM; Saturdays between 8 : 00 AM - 1 : 00 PM. Will partner with you to create a cooperative work schedule.
