Summary Job Description: Responsible for assisting in the planning and development of the Parks and Recreation summer camp program, as well as managing the daily operations of the summer camp, including overseeing activities, supervising staff, and ensuring the safety of all participants involved.
Mandatory Requirements for all Town Employees: A) You are required to understand and abide by all safety work practices for yourself and your staff members. B) You are required to understand and use customer service “best practices” when dealing with external customers (the public) and internal customers (peers and co-workers) by treating everyone fairly, with understanding, empathy, and professionalism.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow and execute proper Woodbury Parks and Recreation (WP&R) Camp policies and procedures.
- Work with WP&R staff to prepare and update supply inventory.
- Identify and determine order needs for camp supplies.
- Coordinate weekly activities for camp.
- Originate, organize, and carry out daily group schedules.
- Update the welcome packet for campers and staff, including discipline policy.
- Attend interviews for camp staff when possible.
- Update the Staff Training Manual as required.
- Assist in planning and conduct Staff Training Day in June.
- Oversee daily operations of the camp, ensuring a safe and fun environment.
- Assign staff to camp groups and provide daily activities and duties.
- Evaluate staff performance and provide direction or assistance as needed.
- Maintain and enforce all camp safety rules and policies.
- Recognize, prevent, and correct potential safety issues.
- Report safety concerns to WP&R, Region14, or police as appropriate.
- Act as a key player in addressing staff, camper, or parental concerns.
- Communicate and report to the Parks and Recreation Director on issues regarding staff, campers, maintenance, and public interactions.
- Record daily camp attendance.
- Track and report supply needs to WP&R staff.
- Serve as the onsite liaison to Region14 staff, WP&R, parents, camp visitors, bus drivers, and field trip staff.
- Coordinate and lead vehicle drop-off/pickup.
- Organize camp shirts prior to weekly field trips.
- Manage the Summer Camp social media page.
- Monitor Camp Staff clock in/out for biweekly timesheet submissions.

Specific education, knowledge and skills required
- High School Diploma or GED. Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience working with pre-school through middle school age children.
- Previous summer camp lead counselor or director experience preferred.
- First Aid and CPR certifications required.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Connecticut driver’s license with reliable transportation.
- Proficient computer skills including social media.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Effective leadership skills with a professional, friendly, and adaptable approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to motivate and support campers, staff, and parents.
- Ability to stay calm and objective under pressure or in challenging situations.
- Observant, safety-conscious, and capable of responding quickly to emergencies.
- Ability to deal with Town officials, employees, and the public in a professional, effective, and courteous manner.
This is a seasonal, exempt, position with an hourly wage of $26.00. Work schedule will include some work hours prior to camp dates for planning and conducting Staff Training Day, along with some work hours after the camp dates. Dates and hours for the summer camp program are as follows:

8:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday
