Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a Scheduler to join our facility in Bellaire, TX!
The Scheduler is responsible for scheduling patient appointments and verifies insurance coverage with carriers. The Scheduler will ensure positive and proactive communications with prospective and existing patients via inbound/outbound calls and/or email.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Verify insurance eligibility for upcoming appointments by utilizing online websites or by contacting the carriers directly
- Determines patient co-payments and calculate co-insurance and deductibles
- Enters insurance information (co-payments, deductibles, etc.) accurately into patient records
- Prioritize incoming authorization request according to urgency
- Generate, verify, and oversee the complete authorization /referral process.
- Initiate and assist with appeals for denied authorizations
- Communicates with all appropriate parties regarding patient and procedure
- Follows-up and ensures all documentation is obtained
- Verifies if all authorizations have been obtained prior to scheduling procedures
- Schedules and/or reschedules patient follow-ups and procedures
- Inform and provide patient with necessary information and instructions prior to procedure date
- Sends prescriptions to pharmacy via fax or e-mail
- Move patients through appointments as scheduled
- Answer telephone and deal with inquiries
- Update patients’ information into database
- Submits information to verification department for pre-authorization
- Ensures completeness and accuracy of patients’ forms
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge with in and out of network insurances, insurance verification, patient responsibility, and process for
- Familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT codes and procedures.
- Ability to review and understand patient medical documentation.
- Ability to independently identify and understand medical necessity requirements.
- Task-oriented and organizational skills; ability to complete tasks timely
- Detail-oriented focus; being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Ability to adapt with flexibility.
- Effective communication skills (written/verbal)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year of experience in a medical facility
- One (1) year of insurance verification experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
